For a man who purports to be so boldly committed to truth, American missionary and Christian pastor Tom Randall has been at the center of — in fact, may be the chief architect of — a long and wicked deception. Randall is a gregarious man with an earnest, unsophisticated preaching style. He stands 6'5" and ambles about with the busted-knee hitch of a former serious athlete.
After sending four children to private high schools, Patti Doyle of Pepper Pike is used to shopping for a good education. She's hit the open-house circuit with her children, quizzing administrators and teachers, sizing up curriculums, trying to find the right fit for her sons and daughters. The Cleveland school board wants more information before deciding whether to rebuild, close or merge a few of its schools, including Tremont Montessori, the Dike School of the Arts and its separate boys and girls schools. The board won't have a recommendation at its monthly work session Tuesday night as originally planned, as board members had too many questions at a board retreat in Geneva-on-the-Lake over the weekend. Board members will instead have a special meeting on June 18 for more discussion and may need another meeting in July for their final decision.
Having been in the business of educating girls throughout Greater Cleveland since and as the home of the Center for Research on Girls, we welcome the opportunity to contribute to the debate around the value of single-sex education, most recently raised in an article in Science and its subsequent national coverage. They note that the research on single-sex versus coed education is equivocal. This is true and it indicates that single-sex schools work well for many students, both girls and boys, and that coed schools do the same.

CCIS was incorporated in after several years of periodic meetings of the trustees and heads of four east side independent schools: Hathaway Brown, Hawken School, Laurel School and University School. The founding premise and today's mission statement remain essentially the same.
